Hunter, is a classmate of my grand daughter Gianna and one day many months ago, I found out Hunter was listening to his parents talk about his friends at school and he wrote Gianna’s name down. Hunter is non verbal but can communicate in many other ways. I was in awe at his ability to do that. I guess Gianna made a strong impression on him:) Watching Terry and Hunters Mom, Andrea interact with him, the love they shower him, I felt an instant friendship. Terry, thank you for being a part of this exhibit and I look forward to photographing Andrea with Hunter for a Mothers Who Inspire exhibit in the future.
I’m so excited to share all the beautiful portraits I created of these amazing Fathers and their beautiful children. I unwrapped all the prints last night and it like Christmas morning, as I looked all of them over. To view it all together, brings tears to my eyes because of all the hard work and long hours that it took to complete it. I’m so proud and honored to know all these fine people and I hope you can join me on Sunday, June 19th from 2:00 till 4:00 (Open to the Public) for The Fathers Who Inspire exhibit.
“He started to walk after a year but we noticed that he wasn’t talking and his spine did not seem straight. The doctor confirmed that he had scoliosis and after meeting with other professionals we received the diagnosis that Hunter fell into the Autism spectrum. This was a shocker to us but Andrea started reading everything about Autism and I felt it was my duty to make sure Hunter had as normal a childhood as possible. Hunter soon taught me that his childhood would not be like others because this kid is far from normal! Although he is non-verbal, he developed an extensive written vocabulary by the age of two and could easily communicate his needs to us. Always happy, he grew out of his scoliosis without the need of a brace or surgery. He went into pre-school and quickly showed the only difference between himself and all the other children was his way of communication. He has lots of friends and continuously amazes me.
I can’t believe I get the privilege to be his dad. Boy I hope I don’t screw this up because the skies the limit for this young citizen of the world.
I love my little man!” Terry Holmes
