“Friends of G was lovingly created as a non-profit organization that provides financial assistance to adults with autism.
Autism is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with and relates to other people, and how they experience the world around them. Our beautiful daughter Gianna Lynn Okun was diagnosed on the autism spectrum at the age of 23 months. As Gianna grows she, along with all people with autism, will experience a world filled with experiences difficult to make sense of, causing significant physical and emotional stress. The number of children diagnosed with autism has grown substantially over the past few decades. In the 1970’s and 1980’s about one in every 2000 children had autism, compared to CDC estimates that one in every 150 8-year-olds today are somewhere on the autism spectrum. While some of these individuals will manage to live relatively independent lives, others will require a lifetime of specialized support.
Friends of G will grow awareness to its challenges and provide assistance to the growing community of adults with autism.” Dan and Kate Okun
