I invited my”boyfriend” Chase to experience delicious pancakes with fresh berries at www.RosesBerryFarm.com a few Sundays ago. I wish I had my Flip video camera because he was quite animated, to say the least! You can feel a little of his excitement by viewing the images below! BTW, Friday, September 17th , Rose’s is hosting a Harvest Dinner Under the Stars to benefit the CT AudubonSociety Center at Glastonbury(860-633-8402 for tickets) I will display my Farm Project photographs on the deck at the event. www.2Hopewell.com (my favorite restaurant!) will prepare the multi-course gourmet meal. Hope you can join us!
The Farm Project
It’s a long story, but I’ll try and condense it. Earlier this year, I approached the Glastonbury Historical Society http://www.hsgct.org/ about photographing ALL the farms (there are over 30!)in town for their records. Give images to each farm and produce a DVD show to display at Farm Day on September 19th at the Wells Shipman Ward House in South Glastonbury. Also, I will display a limited edition series of Canvas photographs and have them displayed at the Farm Day event and through out Glastonbury. Well, I was off to a good start in the early spring, meeting wonderful farmers and their families and photographing. I’ve taken over a thousand images(thank God for digital capture!). Last night, I woke up at 3:00am in a cold sweat! Why? you ask…I have only 2 months to get all my editing and production work done to produce the DVD. I will get it done, I promise! Join me on September 19th to see if I’m still standing!
The following photographs were taken at the Joseph Preli Farm and Vineyard, 235 Hopewell Rd, South Glastonbury, 860-633-7333
When I began this project I sent an introduction letter to all the farms. Below is the first response I received..
I am John yushkevich, proprietor of Joseph preli Farm and Vineyard on Hopewell Rd.. I received your letter last week and am very interested in your project. I had already contacted Beth Ann and notified her to count me in. If you need any help on our end let me know and we will try to help.
It was also mentioned that you would want to do some family photos. My sister and 2nd and 3rd generation cousins will be converging at the farmhouse during the first two weeks of July to make raviolis, a family recipe. It would also be best to see the farm at this time because at that time things are well into growing. Many of the farming I do is conducted with antique farm machinery which also gives an interesting view for people into how our ancestors worked the land.
The raviolis were delicious! Enjoy!
