I met Bobbi and her son Alex at last years Mothers Who Inspire exhibit. They saw the news segment on Channel 3 and they had to come and I’m so glad they did. I knew I had to have them in this years exhibit. Alex is a big history and science fiction buff and he loves to read. He brought his books to show me and his framed copy of the Gettysburg Address.
He is an inspiration to all children on the Autism spectrum. Bobbi counsels new parents whose child has been diagnosed on the spectrum. Her manner is so calm and kind, she’s perfect for the job. I wish we knew her when my grand daughter was diagnosed.
I’m so honored to have met them and photograph the love they have for each other.
Below is a small piece from Bobbi and Alex’s story:
“When I reflect on how I feel about my amazing son, so many thoughts and words come to mind but there is one word that describes him best. That word is……..Courageous.
“I was recently asked how I felt about being the mother of a child with special needs and my response was simply that I feel like the luckiest mom in the world that God blessed me with this incredible gift. Alex’s love is unconditional and complete and he inspires me every day to be a better mother and person. To quote Alex….”I don’t mind being called special needs mom because the first word is special and that’s what I am”. Yes you are buddy and I love you with every piece of my heart.”
